Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician – Urgent Care
Location: Chula Vista CA (Onsite)
Schedule: Wednesday – Sunday 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Duration: Until February 2025 with potential for extension based on performance and business needs
Pay: $35 – $45 per hour (Depending on experience)
Position Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Technician – Urgent Care performs waived and moderately complex laboratory tests as defined by CLIA regulations under general medical supervision. This role involves conducting clinical tests to deliver timely accurate results in Hematology Urinalysis Chemistry and Coagulation. Knowledge of quality control procedures instrument calibration and preventive maintenance is essential. Clear and effective communication with medical staff clients and patients is required.
Responsibilities:

Perform proficiency testing and monitor quality control functions for waived and moderately complex tests. This includes tests that do not require microscopic analysis such as CBC differential counts except for UA microscopic examinations.

Demonstrate competency in instrument operation troubleshoot issues and coordinate with service technicians to ensure instruments are functioning properly in a timely manner.

Receive collect and process samples verifying patient information billing orders specimen quantity and storage requirements.

Accurately enter patient testing data documenting corrections appropriately to meet established turnaround times.

Maintain equipment by performing periodic maintenance as scheduled and ensure a clean organized workspace.

Handle ordering labeling and maintaining inventory ensuring supplies are stored at the appropriate temperature.

Archive and file QC data patient logs instrument maintenance records and other relevant documentation.

Check pending test orders at the end of each shift and notify nursing staff or providers about specimens submitted without corresponding test orders.

Address unacceptable results taking appropriate corrective action or referring the issue to a CLS or supervisor as needed.

Adhere to laboratory safety standards including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Answer phone calls from offices inquiring about test results.
Qualifications:
Experience Required:
6 months to 1 year of experience as an MLT working with various laboratory instruments such as ISTAT Piccolo Chemistry Analyzer Coulter (CBC instruments) Clinitek or Siemens Urine Analyzers and Coagu-Check.
Education Required:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Certifications/Licenses Required:

Current CPR certification.

California State MLT License.
Skills Required:

Verbal and Written Communication:
Strong verbal and written communication skills. -
Technical Skills:
Proficient in typing and using a computer keyboard.
Able to handle emergency or crisis situations and manage frequent interruptions.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Frequent prolonged standing and walking.

Exposure to infectious specimens and odorous chemicals.

Subject to varying and unpredictable situations including occasional irregular hours.
